I would like to be able to download torrents directly from the main page. Most people don't write descriptions, so it's just an extra step to make. I was thinking it would be much better if you can click on the file size and download the torrent without leaving the main page. No extra columns needed, no extra buttons to push... Anyone agree???

I dont think that feature will ever come.

the other thing is that they've put a lot of effort into the current layout that shows all the info, such as tracker info, details etc.

if the system was changed so downloading the torrent could be done from the homepage, all that effort will have gone to waste because no one would ever see it.

ok...suggestions/requests whatever...

1). Each time i enter the website it seems i have to login?? Cant you guys make it permanent so that each time i enter i get automatically logged in..i have no idea if this has something to do with your coding or setting up my browser options...i dont think its the latter...so what should i do abt that??

2). Instead of adding a new tab called comments, why cant you just make it such that the comments are displayed under the main page itself...??it would be easier wouldnt it??or has this got to do with ads and revenues and stuff??

Silent i don't have to log in every time, i use Firefox and every time i visit the page i am already logged on

silentmobius the logins are cookie based, so mabye your browser doesn't allow mininova to store cookies?

Putting the comments there isn't easyer. It is much harder, and would probably also mean we need to buy a new sql server because it would result in a lot more queries (because people visit the /tor/ page more than the /com/).

umm...my browser does allow cookies..the reason i am sure of this is the forums...u cant keep track of what you have read and what you havent if your browser doesnt allow cookies...i know there is one other option that the forum provides but i am not sure what it is and i am sure i am not using it...neways..thanx for the suggestion...i will check it out..

and abt the second...i know it has to be tough coding that stuff...so i have to say gr8 job even though i know pretty much nothing abt mysql and php...but you said that ppl visit the torrents page more than the comments page right??well...thats not gonna be permanent is it??once ppl get to know abt the comments section they would wanna check it out which would result in more queries for that section wouldnt it...wont this affect your server??i know i am missing something dreadfully obvious but i just cant remember what....
also i am just assuming things from your post..so forgive me if i am being a complete noob...just some thoughts...

silentmobius is your ip static or does it change all the time? because if you ip changes you will need to login again.

You are right in that more people will visit the comments page, only in my calculation it is better this way. I can't just explain how I calculated this but it has to do with the time between the visit to the torrent and the comments page.
And ofcource it is also better for the ads.

umm...you are right abt one thing....i do not have a static ip...but i am pretty sure it has nothing to do with that.....because in the other websites i visit i get automatically logged in.....but i think you were right the first time...the website used cookies first didnt it??so that it rembrs what u searched for, most number of searches and stuff like that right...??so i think it has to be some kind of cookie problem only...i will check it out now....

the ads thing i understand...u totally lost me on the time interval thing..but dont bother about it...it was just a thought...

Here is the thing... Every time mininova gets a new ad, it only shows up on the main page, not the torrent page. I have NEVER seen an ad on the torrent page.

As for the hard work, I think its pointless to MAKE people see it. Everyone who visits mininova appreciate all the stuff around here, even if we dont see it all.

Even with the feature I suggested, I think a lot of people will look at torrent info to see if it is zipped or not, if its avi, mpeg, or mp4, what tracker is it on and so on.


By the way, anyone else besides me think this is a good idea???

umm...theres always an ad on the torrent page for me...mostly the kissing matchmaking ad these days tho....
donno mate...i think it is kinda useless...what is the point of downloading from the main page itself if u are going to see the stats anyway??u cud directly download it from the torrents page itself...but hey..ts just my opinion....
and i still cant get the automatic login to work....

What about an user option where you can turn the direct links on the frontpage on (default off)? This way most people will still visit the torrent page.

i still dont think it would be of much use...but a user option would be a nice add-on...

and thanx erik...i got the login thing to work..not a problem with my ip...but cookies....just deleted everything..shutdown my computer and logged on back again and everything was perfect...

How about the option to turn of certain categories on the main page. I never download any anime, books, games or pictures.

We already thought about that, only there are some problems with caching when doing that. But when writing this I got some idee to do this with javascript which would work just perfect.
