Things are going from bad to worse for torrenters in the uk. Read this article fully.

Whats so bad about this article? The fact that not only are british mps publicly calling for an end to file sharing but they are using a certain type of pornography and torrenting in the same sentence to try and scare monger support for the cause. A tactic that was just tried against pirate bay.

The isp involved in this case, tiscali have been trying to support there customers but l8tly you can see an impact of the presure they are under, over here. They used to just choke the traffic during peak hours ( 6 pm - 11 pm gmt ) but are now actualy blocking filesharing traffic completely during the hours 12 pm - 12.30 am gmt. Not only can you no longer connect to peers, leechers, but update sites ( azureus update check ) emule server met lists etc... are been blocked to. They seem to be doing this by scrambling the traffic somehow. If torrenting, you will get an ok (dht) connection from the tracker, but you will not receive the proper torrent info. The only connections you can see are all listed as utorrent 1.6.1 etc... yet no info of how much they have and no downloads rate is available. If trying to connect to an emule server, it returns the response that the server is full. If trying to download an emule server met list from ed2k, the source address is garbled nonsense instead of the correct address.
Worying part is they can actualy block you. The behavour I see proves it.

I leave it open to the big brains of the torrent comunity to try and find a way to circumvent this as rc4 encryption isn't working.

And unfortunately Tiscali now own a huge chunk of the broadband service providers in the UK

I'm afraid it's is generally a bad picture...
And although there are so many countries that do nothing about the situation (yet?), if the USA and the UK manage to finally block all the P2P / torrent sharing - then this whole world can hardly survive without them..

Read a comment someware ( can't find it again to link ) that sounds a bit far-fetched but would be nice to see. About the pirate bay getting that island they were talking about and hosting the files for direct download as well as torrents.

Wishfull thinking though.

OK
Here's something new (for me) and I'd like any thoughts :

Over the last week or so I have been looking at the IP addresses on uTorrent when d/l or seeding torrents
9 out of 10 times I see a local IP (within a range of 20 nrs - ie xxxxxxxx 140 to xxxxxxx159) - which I have tracked to a remote place in the mountains.
I think it's far too much of a coincidence. Plus they are always without a flag next to the IP nr.
Plus when they are d/l - they remain at 0.00 %, although being seeded.
When seeding they up at 300 kbps (which is surreal for our connections..)
I find it more than very odd..
It just seems as if they are keeping track of local IPs (or maybe foreign too) that are dealing with torrents.

Thoughts ???
I hope I'm not paranoid - but I just don't believe in coincidence !

Dopeman found that too. All are with Ziptorrent. He gave me a txt file (list) for my peerguardian which block those.

CODE
There is a new enemy amongst us. This enemy is using a program named ZIPTORRENT to squeeze their way in every new or popular gaming torrent available today. Click to download ANY Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 torrent and you will notice what I speak of. Look in your peers list and will see MULTIPLE peers using ZIPTORRENT and sitting at 0.0% progress of download.

They are leeching and dumping data.
As the data goes in to their client it goes right out. This enables them
to highly slow down if not STOP the download speed for all others downloading.

This blocklist is merely a simple start and will work well with peerguardian. Click to manually add this list to your Peerguardian and watch instantly hundreds of IP's being blocked from your PC. This will allow you to share to others of legit nature. Not those leeching and dumping data to stop all downloads.

This is merely the begining of this new dilema. Many are working quickly to produce blocklists and also in development is a background app to block
all ZIPTORRENT users from your client.

Once again, add this file to your blocklists in Peerguradian to start saving game torrents everywhere, including for yourself.

This is only a start and this list will be in constant progress.

yeoldrocker:- I don't think it's what you think it is. There exists a particular type of client/client modification that passes false information to the trackers and peers. Both circumstances sound very much like them. One specific mod in particular. By chance, would the version of utorrent be in the range 1.6.1 etc?

Sorry if I'm being a bit cryptic but I don't wan't to get in to trouble for going on about such things on this form. Do yourself a favour and kick and ban these people as the figures you see are not real and are only there to hide what there true rates and ratio are.

Edit, sorry if I'm wrong, disregard the above if I am.

So that's why they stick to 0.0%

Thanks Ubi
I have to d/l peerguardian first and then ask what to add

Cheers

*Edit* thanks deadly - appreciate the input. Will DO!

*EdiT*2*
There is no banning option in uTorrent. You mean on Peerguardian - right ?

All credit goes to my buddy dopeman. Who found about this.

open notepad.

add this:

ziptorrent:62.103.145.141-62.103.145.159
ziptorrent:64.62.145.130-64.62.145.165
ziptorrent:65.19.131.0-65.19.131.85
ziptorrent:66.160.133.0-66.160.133.199
ziptorrent:87.117.250.0-87.117.250.150
ziptorrent:216.218.0.100-216.218.184.199
ziptorrent:216.218.190.0-216.218.199.255

save under zip_blocklist.txt

Open PG2, list manager, ADD, add file, find the txt file (browse), click OK, it will add it. You're then set to go.

And watch it block.

Sorry yeoldrocker, I use azureus and have a kick and ban option in the peers list. It also has an ip filter to add ranges to. I don't work with utorrent and didn't realise it wouldn't have this option.

BTW, do the clients names of these people read up as ubisuck mentiond? Just curious.

dopeman warned the TPB gang, he's waiting to see what happens, All his torrents are swarmed with this. He tried to upload something the other day, in a very short period of time, he had +/-100 of those slowing his seeding to a crawl.
