I tried to roll back after installing 7.9 drivers because COH won't run anymore, and though it said it rolled back, it didn't do a damn thing. Never had this problem before, so I was wondering if I can simply install 7.7 and they'll replace my 7.9, or do I need to uninstall 7.9 first?

p.s: I know it's off topic, but some members on here are really helpful.

Thanks for quick response, but that's where I originally got 7.9. I've got the 7.7 install ready to go, but will it simply overwrite the 7.9 drivers, or will I get problems trying to install older drivers over newer?

I'm trying to playCOmpany of Heroes, which worked until yesterday when I installed the 7.9 drivers to play Quake Wars demo. Now when I try to play COH it gives me an error saying "Failed to set a working mode for the rendering device. This could be due to having an old version of DirectX installed." Only thing that's changed at all was driver version.

edit* Thanks for the help! smile.gif

Installing the old drivers will over write everything, so go ahead and install the older ones (hopefully it will fix it). Try uninstalling your ATI control panel and drivers in Add/Remove programs first.

Would be wise to clean out the current drivers first, ATI drivers can be especially troublesome with this (experience).

I would say remove all the ATI related items from add/remove programs, reboot then run Driver cleaner pro or something similar. Then you install from scratch.

Sure enough google saves me the time of explaining all the little details http://www.driverheaven.net/windows-xp-2k-...s-properly.html

Yeah, the drivers were the problem and COH works again. Thanks for all the help, and I had already googled it and went through reg manually, but is driver cleaner pro a good progam in your opinion?

Personally I've only had to use it once (My drivers went completely retarded after an update) Had to boot into safe mode and use it.

It's very handy when the shit hits the fan but I only install it when I need it and that is rare.
