By request, I'd like to create this space for old farts and their grandkids to reminisce about the shows on the boobtube in the days of rabbitears and dials. Feel free to rattle on, make requests, ask questions, whatever.

Some of us younger farts (I'm 39) enjoy the old shows. I've been watching classic TV since my folks got cable TV in April 1981.
After all....some of us still have a lot of catching up to do on shows that we weren't able to see when they first aired. |

A few days ago I asked in an earlier topic that I started if somebody would get back to uploading Cheyenne, the western series starring Clint Walker. They left off with the 13th episode of the first season and that was almost 3 weeks ago.
They were copied from the first season DVD release. There are 15 from that first year. How about the remaining 2? Cheyenne is far from my favorite series, but I like the show. My top request would be The Jack Benny Program. I have plenty of Jack's radio shows in Mp3 form spanning many of those 23 years, but 15 seasons of his TV show seem to be rare these days. Public domain copies are sold on DVD, but several are in bad need of remastering. The episodes from 1960 and 61 seem to be the easiest to find and are in good condition, but those from the 1950s seem to have had the opening theme music changed perhaps due to copyright issues with the musician's union. But then it could be because in the early years, Benny's sponsor was Lucky Strike cigarettes on both radio and TV. Funny thing, because the original end theme on even those is intact! I've also run across copies with the original Lucky Strike commercials but I didn't save those because they are only 16 mm prints. The Jack Benny TV shows I've downloaded recently have been from both Archive.org and GUBA websites, both of which have so few. I have yet to see any in torrent form. At least the non-torrent site downloads are usually much faster. |

This forum is a great idea. Your list of shows is fantastic! Something I'd like to see again, but can't find anywhere, is the New Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that were seen on the Banana Splits Show in the late 60's. It combined animation with real actors added into the cartoon. Apparently there were only 20 episodes.

Hi Sanshin. Glad to see you found your way here. There are several New Adventures of Huckleberry Finn on YouTube. They're split into segments but are complete episodes.

I've seen all of those before, and downloading from Internet Archive some of them (including "How Jack Met Mary" -- itself a TV remake of a radio episode) have an altered theme too.
Jack Goes to a Concert, Lawrence Welk, and Hong Kong Suit are as they should be and I got those the other night. This is a longshot, but do you have the Phil Harris episode from 1958, Milton Berle from 1960, or the episodes with Lucille Ball and The Smothers Brothers from 1964-1965? |

Since they are public domain, I'd think they'd be out on cheap dvd at some bargain barn in the US. Hi movie. Would you happen to have the second season of Rat Patrol? The first season was found on Demonoid a while back by a couple different sources and I believe might still be posted on some sites. But I never did see season 2 show up anywhere at any point. This was another great war show of the 60's.

Sorry, Sanshin. That's not a show I collect, but OTRMAN has released s1-2 on Usenet. His stuff is often picked up by GUBA so check there for the easiest direct download.
CODE http://www.guba.com/ Nope, GUBA only had s.1 so your best bet is to learn to use Usenet yourself. The oldest s.2 file is 16 days old so you might be able to get them using your ISP's free news server. You'll need a newsreader application and Par reconstructing app since free servers often have missing pieces and don't retain files for very long. (Whatever you do, don't join UseNext. There are better pay servers that give you several gig free trials.) Read CODE http://www.slyck.com/ngnew.php?page=1 first. They'll give you links to the apps you'll need. Once you have a newsreader, enter the url of your ISP's news server. You'll find that on your provider's homepage. Then use your browser and search on CODE http://www.binsearch.info/ going back about a month. Put a check in the box next to the files you want than go to the top or bottom of the page and create and download the NZB file. Double clicking the NZB will start your newsreader downloading those files as a rar (archive) format and their pars (for reconstructing incomplete rars). If you get too many missing pieces that can't be saved with the par files, you'll have to go with a good pay server. I recommend Giganews but others also offer free trials that may be all you need to get those season 2s you want. Good luck! -------------------- Please read Retr•TV FAQ Reseed Request? - Post LINK to torrent! |

Just for you Sanshin! A taste of the quality of the file.
If you like it and want more, you'll have to learn Usenet! And once you learn Usenet, you can become The King of Rat Patrol Uploaders. CODE http://www.mininova.org/tor/1256659 Honestly, it only took 20 seconds to download off Usenet. Probably take me about an hour to upload as a torrent... -------------------- Please read Retr•TV FAQ Reseed Request? - Post LINK to torrent! |

Thanks for that info, Movie...but I have a Macintosh and I tried using Usenet a while back and those files wouldn't download.
Any suggestions for Mac users who refuse to go back to the insecure world of PCs? |

Absolutely, I'M A MAC USER!
Get Unison for your reader. MacParDelux for recovery with parity files (worth making a donation!) Unarchiver and UnRarX for rar archives AND as many Terabytes of storage space as you can afford! It piles up faster than you can burn them to discs. Also be sure to open up the port number you use for your server in your firewall. Try your ISP's news server first, but if you're really serious, you'll want a paid server. It doesn't cost that much. For what I used to pay for lousy satellite tv, I can get every up to the minute tv show, movie, even things not in the theaters or on tv yet - How do you suppose scene releases first get distributed? - plus everything else you can find and can't find in torrents. You find good things on GUBA, right? GUBA gets them from Usenet. Take advantage of all the free trials from various servers. You can always switch. The main thing is that the server has long retention and good completion. It's a bummer to find files you want that were posted 100 days ago but your server no longer stores them or only has 80% of the complete file. I've never had that with Giganews - 100% as far back as 200 days. After that your download is whatever your pipe can handle. I almost never download anything with torrents anymore. I download fast on Usenet and use my upload speed to spread the bounty with torrents. As you find what you want on Binsearch, you'll begin to know which newsgroups carry the stuff you like. Usenet is all email basically, so start chatting with the posters you like. If your interests are similar, they're bound to have all those special things your young fart heart desires. -------------------- Please read Retr•TV FAQ Reseed Request? - Post LINK to torrent! |
