Hi folks
Just starting up with all downloading etc and it seems that their is plenty of programs i'm needing to help me achieve this. Currently using 'convert x to dvd' and it's awesome with no problems other than it takes ages to complete. Anyway noticed that there's convert x to dvd 4 available and was wondering if theres any difference in it to be worth upgrading Cheers Lamby |

The actual burning to DVD only takes a few minutes. If you have a DivX compatible DVD player there is no need to convert the .avi file. You can just burn the file straight to CD/DVD and play it directly. -------------------- |

Cheers for the reply's folks.
The way i've been doing it is to add a file to convertxtodvd and press convert(with blank disc in). I assume it converts it then burns it to a disc. usually taking about 3 1/2 to 4 hours to complete a 700mb file. Is that the norm. As for divx. I'm a Panasonic freak so need to one thats panasonic with surround sound ect. Been looking but i'm a bit fussy lol. Cheers again |

It's too much work for me, I just play everything from the laptop through the television in the sitting room. Haven't burnt a DVD in ages. -------------------- |

Cheers again The problem you are having is RAM related, your Computer does not house a lot of RAM an it's drawing resources from different apps that you have installed an are currently running at that present time when you are burning a AVI file to DISC, some people don't realize this but ConvertXtoDVD uses a lot of resources. What you could do is stop all un-needed processes that you have currently running while you are burning a project. FireWall, Virus Protection, etc.......... Or try this the next time you burn a project with convertx QUOTE This will shutdown un-neeeded processes while you are burning, which should reduce your conversion & burn time considerably. This app is also good for gaming an working with Photo Shop The only solution to this would be to buy more RAM for your P.C., I used to burn DVD's with convertx on a Pentium III with 512MB of RAM an it would take me nearly 6 hours, plus I could not use the internet while converting & burning because of serious lag, but now I have a 1000 times better system an 8GB of RAM, now it just takes me less than a hour to burn a 700MB avi file with convertx. Big difference -------------------- THE GUN DOES NOT ASK QUESTIONS,IT ANSWERS THEM

Cheers dude, was thinking of doing the same as my TV and Laptop have hdmi but its just sometimes when watching on my laptop, the file sometimes stops now and again. Even when using vlc player.I've updated my codecs as shown on here. just a bit confused. |

Cheers again folks 3GB of RAM is loads. You should be having no RAM related problems with 3GB installed. That's more than enough for any standard operations. -------------------- |

Find it strange it takes so long lamby. Your cpu speed will affect the time a lot. My AMD 3600 dual core with 4Gig of ram takes about 1hr 20mins to encode and burn a 700Meg file. You can alter the time taken by altering the encoding settings. Have a look at Settings >>Encoding and play about with the settings for quality and priority.

Cheers again folks I also find it odd that you would say that you have 3GB of RAM an that your conversion an burning projects span 3hrs or so?? Even with a low level processor an a person doing a series of multi tasking 3GB of RAM is enough to shoulder the load when using convertx. -------------------- THE GUN DOES NOT ASK QUESTIONS,IT ANSWERS THEM

You know, when you put together the extremely slow encoding time, and the fact that when playing files on your computer they stutter a bit, it starts to look more like a hardware or resources problem. Encoding, and playing video files are both heavy duty processes.
1) Do you have problems with any other heavy duty processes? 2) Have you any processes installed that are consuming a lot of resources? Assuming your OS is Windows, use Task Manager to check this. 3) Perform a good quality malware scan. Is any rogue process secretly crippling your machine? 4) Defragment your hard drive. Is the hard drive low on free space? If none of the above, then: 5) Is your machine overheating? (lappies are prone to that) If your computer doesn't have a means of showing that, then use an analyser application like PC Wizard or something that'll show your cpu and system temperatures when doing heavy work. 6) Is your RAM malfunctioning? 7) Is your cpu malfunctioning? Hardly likely to be a power supply problem, as the computer would likely crash or keep rebooting. |

Hi folks
|Just to let you know that I've finally got this computer sorted, at last. Also been following your 'help' answers regards setting up Utorrent and that has been improved. Just not sure on the static ip scenario. No matter how many times I follow the guides you lot put up,I still can't get my head round it. Cheers again Lamby |

Once you have the static IP set you more on to Port Forwarding in your Router which is more difficult. Here are the best guides for each: 1. Allowing uTorrent through your Firewall: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers...routerindex.htm 2. Setting a static IP address: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm 3.
